Writs of Seizure & Property Liens Ontario

When a debtor owns real property or personal assets, our licensed paralegals can register writs of seizure and sale to enforce your court judgment or LTB order. We work with the court sheriff to execute enforcement orders against debtor property across Ontario.

Writ of Seizure and Sale

A writ of seizure and sale (writ of execution) is filed with the court and registered against the debtor's real property. If the debtor sells or refinances the property, the writ must be satisfied from the proceeds. The sheriff can also seize and sell personal property to satisfy the judgment.

Property Liens

Registering a writ creates a lien against the debtor's real property in Ontario. This prevents the debtor from selling or mortgaging the property without first satisfying the judgment. Writs are searchable in the public land registry.
